DIRTY DONKEY - LIVE & KICKING

a Mardi Gras Festival Event

Preparations are well underway for our next DIRTY DONKEY on Friday 24th February at Rogues, 16-18 Oxford Sq, Darlo. In the ElectricFilth dungeon, joining Sydney live electronic act the Stick Figures will be our regular Donkey DJs Sveta (playing a techno closing set), Doctor Jane and Mark Murphy. We also welcome the return of our ?new boys? Matt Vaughan and Ryzer to filth up the dungeon with a back to back set.

The predominant sound of the Main Room incorporates all kinds of mashed up, dark and dirty, grinding, electro-tekky beats which keep the dance floor pumped all night.

Upstairs in EclecticFunk we?ll also have live music. Anthony Storm aka Lil Lost Raver who performed at our July 05 DD returns with a whole lot of new stuff to sing for us. Also playing live will be the nemesisproject, a band about to launch their debut EP and destined for great things. DJs in EclecticFunk include Donkey favourites stAlka and Simon Mann with fresh talent Marquis and PurrJo Meow. EclecticFunk provides an alternative music space where the music policy is "anything goes" and includes house, breaks, funk, soul, jazz and hip hop.

We open our doors at 9.30pm and selected cocktails will be $7.50 for 2 hours till 11.30pm, so try to arrive early!

A percentage of profits from DIRTY DONKEY - Live & Kicking will be donated to PFLAG - Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays to assist them in raising funds for an educator to promote anti-homophobia policies in schools.

DIRTY DONKEY Friday 2nd December 2005
[Wednesday, 01 February 2006]

This is the fifth DIRTY DONKEY and it's just over 2 years since our first one in November 2003 at Candy's Apartment. It's been amazing every time we've put on a party and discovered more and more interesting  people who come along to dance and be part of the Donkey vibe. We are proud to be part of something which is inclusive of lots of communities, ideas, identities, and diverse ways of being. We put on the first one because we really wanted to get together and party with friends from different aspects of our lives - a bit like having a house party and inviting absolutely everyone you know and not worrying about whether they would get along - mostly they do and they can be some of the best times! We hoped to recreate that kind of a vibe in a nightclub as well as getting to pick excellent music - with a definite dark and dirty electro/techno feel for a pumping dancefloor and an alternative funked up space where DJs could play stuff they really loved...

We are keen to build a sense of community with our parties and want to say a big THANK YOU to the growing Donkey crew who help out and support the night in so many ways.. We are hoping to encourage a sense of cabaret and perfomance in the Eclectic Funk Cocktail Bar and happy to hear from artists and performers with creative ideas. This is our last party for 2005 and we've got lots of plans for a bigger and DIRTIER 2006!

So - if you couldn't come along to the last one..... or if you did and you wanna do it all again, the next DIRTY DONKEY is on Friday 2nd December @ Rogues!!! We've confirmed Donkey stalwart Mark Murphy alongside Doctor Jane; a return visit from Lanny K and Miss Yetti, and debuts downstairs from DJs Matt Vaughan & Ryzer -both talented guys sure to keep the ElectricFilth dungeon pumping! Downstairs the music is a sexy mix of dark, dirty electro, tech & grinding beats.

Upstairs we'll have fresh talent with DJ Mesma joining Donkey regulars stAlka, Simon Mann and Marquis to keep the funk fruity in the EclecticFunk cocktail bar where the music policy is "anything goes" and will journey through all kinds of house, breaks, hip hop and electro.

Advance tix are $15 +bf, are on sale from our favourite outlets: Darlinghurst: Karnal Leather, Reefer Records, Spank Records, Toolshed. Newtown: Froot Store. Door $20 (subject to capacity).

DIRTY DONKEY - Friday 30th September
[Monday, 14 November 2005]
This is the fourth Donkey party and it's on the Friday of the Long Weekend - Springtime, Sleaze Ball weekend and lots of good reasons to go out, have a boogie, catch up with friends, meet new people and hang out with a whole interesting mixed and (often motley) bunch of people who know how to party with style.. and that's not just one kind of style but many diverse and fabulous styles..

As with all our parties we want to be affordable for most people and have a mix of established underground and up n coming DJs who support the ethos of bringing people together from different communities to party and have a lot of fun.

NB: as this is such a 'good value' party - please feel free to make a donation into the Community Bucket if you are so inclined. The contents of 'the Bucket' will add to the donation we make to a community organisation.. so far this year we've supported: the Gay & Lesbian Counselling Service, Twenty10, the Breast Cancer Foundation, the Ankali Project, and the Women & Girls Emergency Centre.

The next DIRTY DONKEY is on the Sleaze Ball weekend and New Mardi Gras is seeking support to fundraise for the 2006 Mardi Gras Festival, so we'll be making our donation to New Mardi Gras this time and hope you will come along to DIRTY DONKEY and support us (to support New Mardi Gras) by having a good time :-)

We love our electro, techno, mashed up, pumping, dark n dirty music which propels you onto the dance floor and keeps you there much longer than you intended.. We also love lots of other stuff which you might hear upstairs in the Cocktail Bar (heretoafter known as: monicaselectronicharmonica) and could include anything which fits within the broad parameters of EclecticFunk - house, hip hop, soul, funk, breaks and jazz.

In terms of the music policy overall it's all about blurring boundaries and playing all kinds of music and we encourage creative freedom for DJs to play stuff they love and want to share with the party people.

DJ Line-up for Friday 30th September @ Rogues
ELECTRICFILTH - Sveta, Mark Murphy, Doctor Jane & stAlka
ECLECTICFUNK - Simon Mann, Matt Vaughan, Dayla, Marquis, Ryzer, Nic Godoy & PurrJo

More details to be confirmed including Live performances and DJ set times. [more]

Dirty Donkey ? Thank You & Photos Online Now!

What a MASSIVE night! A HUGE thank you to everyone who came along and made DIRTY DONKEY an absolutely rocking party. The crowd and the vibe were totally awesome with a great mix of people. Where to start? Firstly thank you to the wonderfully diverse and fabulously friendly crowd who partied with us till the last track ended! It was great to see so many different people come together and have a good time.

Thank you to our DJs and performers who really got the place going in both rooms. Downstairs the ElectricFilth room went off with Mark Murphy, Sveta, Lanny K & Miss Yetti unleashing excellent sets. And of course Doctor Jane had a ball too!

Brilliant sets upstairs in EclecticFunk from Marquis, Beaker, Simon Mann, stAlka & Matt Vaughan. PurrJo's stunning debut behind the decks with old jazz tunes was a perfect start to the evening, and stAlka and Matt carried on mash-up stylee upstairs till really late after the official sets finished. A big thank you to D-Vinyl for a fantastic show downstairs and Lil Lost Raver?s excellent live performance upstairs really topped the night off.

Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful helpers who pitched in to bump all our decor and gear in and out in record time - you all rock and we appreciate your help so much.

Check out Jo?s pix of the night here

If you didn?t make it along, we hope to see you (and everyone who came and had a great time) at the next DIRTY DONKEY which will be on Friday September 30th, to kick off the Sleaze Ball weekend. We?ll send out more info as it comes to hand, so sign up to the mailing list so we can keep you updated.

Dirty Donkey ? this week!
[Friday, 08 July 2005]

DIRTY DONKEY is moving to Rogues nightclub on Friday 29th July, joining fellow underground nights Hellfire Club and Schmutzig at this unbelievable venue right in the heart of Oxford Street. This club is a hidden gem, with two great spaces, a throbbing downstairs dance space with massive sound and lighting systems and an upstairs cocktail bar which lends itself to chilling, chatting and enjoying tunes at a more laidback pace. At DIRTY DONKEY the upstairs lounge will provide comfortable seating areas, lots of visual d?cor and tunes that range from jazz, bebop, reggae and dub to house, hip hop and breaks. Downstairs the music will be VERY Dark, Dirty and Sexy. As always, we are committed to giving our DJs artistic freedom so we don't tell them what to play. We believe in giving DJs a chance to show what they can do.
