Doctor Jane is a DJ who plays in the GLBTQI, underground and mainstream
dance communities. She is versatile and plays a range of different
styles of music. These include ass-shaking, funked-up house and breaks,
dark and sexy electro, through to hard-edged trance and techno.
It was probably inevitable that she would end up in the music industry
in some capacity. From the moment she discovered disco at the age of 8
she was hooked - spending all her pocket money and then part time job
wages on music, establishing a vast collection spanning almost all
genres from jazz, blues and reggae to rock and electronica.
She's constantly collecting vinyl and will not walk past a second hand
record store or charity shop without rifling through their selection.
Fast-forward a few years and Jane had completed a PhD in Virology at
Sydney Uni (hence "Doctor" Jane) and was immersed in the gay &
lesbian party scene. It was around this time that she ended up standing
in on a DJ course for a friend who had to pull out at the last minute.
This planted the seed that the way forward was mixing dance music.
Doctor Jane loves music with a passion and has achieved a lot since
playing as an up and comer in The Grand Pagoda at Mardi Gras Party
2003. Since then, she has begun building a reputation for her tough
sexy sound and her energy behind the decks. Her sets take punters on a
journey and keep the dance floor pumping. Jane is a DJ who interacts
with the crowd.
Doctor Jane's first nightclub gig came in May 2003 as a Thursday
Delights "unwrapped" DJ at the Icebox in Kings Cross, with a banging 1
hour mix of hard trance and techtrance. Since then, she's played at the
Phoenix, Icebox, Candy's Apartment, Space, Civic Hotel, Bohem, Arq,
Odyssey House, City Hotel, Australian Hotel, the 2003 Sleaze Ball and
Earthcore Carnival 2004. Doctor Jane now has a residency with
Earthcore. For bio visit http://www.earthcore.com.au/.
In 2004, Doctor Jane was the first female to make it to the finals of
the annual Plastic DJ competition. Jane followed this with a set in the
Numission Room at the Transmission 'White Party' in September.
Other highlights of 2004 included Doctor Jane's first interstate gig,
which was also her biggest gig yet, where she played a dark and sexy
set to a crowd of around 2000 people at the Earthcore Carnival in
November. Her DJ mix 'Vital Signs' was selected for broadcast on Triple
J's "The Club" show in June. This mix is now hosted att http://www.inthemix.com.au/fm/16502/.
She is a DJ with a passion for music and dance music culture. If you've
seen her play, you'll know that she enjoys the music as much as the
people on the dancefloor!
Doctor Jane works to blur the boundaries and perceived separation
between the GLBTQI, underground and mainstream music scenes, always
comfortable to play for an up-for-it crowd. This concept has been part
of Jane's inspiration and she lives by this philosophy - that it's
about bringing people together, having a good time and just playing the
music... |
